Biography
Born in Florence, Italy Sergio began playing guitar after moving to
Australia in 1980. He has Masters in guitar from Melbourne University and
was taught by Jochen Schubert, Marion Schaap, and John Griffiths. He has
also studied in Italy with Oscar Ghiglia, Alirio Diaz, Flavio Cucchi, and
John Williams.
Sergio has been involved in the Melbourne music scene since the early 90s
performing guitar, writing and arranging in a wide variety of musical
ensembles and genres. These include the Latin/Funk Reg Cole Quartet, his
Latin Italian duo Momento, his Pop acoustic project The Surge, and more
recently, the Big Italian Night Band with Frank Lotito.
As a classical guitarist he has won numerous awards including a Melbourne
Research Scholarship and Italian Government Grant to study in Sienna, He has
undertaken solo tours around Australia and released a number of CDs which
are available through his website www.sergioercole.com.
You might also have recently seen or heard Sergio performing with The Cat
Empire on Rove Live, Sunrise, ABC Sideshow, 774, Nova FM, with the
Australian Youth Orchestra or in front of a capacity crowd at the Myer Music
bowl.
